The auxiliary troop and cavalry camp belonging to the Noric Limes was built near the confluence of the Erlauf and Danube and was probably occupied by Roman soldiers from the 1st to the 5th century. Almost all the main geographical sources for the time of Roman antiquity cite the place. In the 4th century, the stationing of a unit of the Roman Danube Fleet achieved greater importance. An old arm used by her as a harbor separated the fort, which was probably located on an island, from the civil settlement (vicus). The northern part was washed away by the Danube, the southern part is now completely built over by the old town. Remnants of a late antique fan tower and wall remains have been preserved in the basement of the care center, by the parish church and on Thörringplatz. The camp was surrounded by a civilian settlement in the south and south-east, and some street findings were also found here. While in the west of the fort, near Brunn, only one burial place is known, there was an extensive late antique burial ground in the east, in the area of Rüdigerstrasse. Isolated graves were also discovered on Wienerstraße, which were located on the extension of the street leading through the eastern camp gate.
