The tower is located on a six-meter-high terrace above the Danube, between Aggsbach-Dorf and Schönbühel Castle at the exit of the Blashausgraben. Here the Danube formed a tributary and gravel banks. In 1991 the Federal Monuments Office carried out an emergency excavation as part of the renovation of the brass house chapel . The findings revealed a stone building with a side length of around twelve meters. Judging by the bricks found, the observed walls belong to the remains of a Roman-era watchtower with a square plan. The troops once stationed here are unknown.

The oldest visible remains of the former castle complex are preserved in a residential building interpreted as a palas and, due to the wall technology, are dated to the first half of the 13th century. The southern part of the unplastered rectangular building with a 15 × 8 meter floor plan consists of medium-sized rubble blocks and features parts of the garments of one of the original arched windows. The rectangular windows with brick seals date from the 19th century. In the eastern part of the late medieval reconstructions of the 14th and 15th centuries. Century is marked with rubble stone masonry in stock, the wall structures of the 13th century are only partially recognizable. On the embankment of the castle hill, small cellars have been preserved in the south and south-east, and the drained ponds can still be seen in the north-east.
