The two-storey round tower is a remnant of the city fortifications from 1585. In 1888, most of the city wall was removed. In 1889 the Sparkasse converted the tower into a tin tower. Around 1928 the tower was restored to its original state. In 1990 the K.Ö.St.V. Nibelungia Melk bought the old savings bank tower, which she restored with her own resources and which she has since used as a booth (clubhouse). Their insignia can be seen on the tower.

Remains of the medieval city wall have been preserved at the Klostersteig. Its origins go back to the time when the Babenbergers resided in Melk. The oldest documented mention is from the year 1462. The approximately four meter high tabernacle pillar was erected in 1625 at the instigation of Abbot Reiner Landau. The column rests on a cube-shaped base. The lower part is adorned with cherubin heads, the larger upper part with twisted fluting . The column bears a four-sided tabernacle with passion reliefs ( Christ on the Mount of Olives , flagellation , carrying the cross, crucifixion ). A statue of the Madonna and Child type rises above the roof slab on a pyramid-shaped base .

Remains of the medieval city wall have been preserved in Zaglauergasse. Its origins go back to the time when the Babenbergers resided in Melk. The oldest documented mention is from the year 1462. From the middle of the 16th century to around 1605 numerous renovations and extensions took place. In the 19th century, the city fortifications no longer had any military use and were largely demolished.

Pielach Castle consists of two unequal wings. They open at an obtuse angle onto a gate with an octagonal tower top. After the devastation in 1619, the castle was rebuilt and expanded for a long time from 1692.
