The Roman Catholic parish church of Raab is located in the village of Raab in the market town of Raab in the Schärding district in Upper Austria . The church, consecrated to the Holy Archangel Michael , belongs to the deanery Andorf in the diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building .

history

A church was mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The Gothic church was expanded and designed in baroque style from 1753 to 1755.

architecture

The two-aisled Gothic church building was expanded with the removal of the Gothic central pillars and the addition of side aisles to form a baroque three-aisled three-bay church with a lancet barrel vault. Despite the common ridge line of the gable roof, the drawn-in three-bay choir is lower with a three-eighth end and stepped buttresses inside the church. The interior of the ceilings and walls is richly decorated with stucco in the Rococo style, probably by Johann Baptist Modler. The mighty Gothic tower in the northern choir corner has a tent roof and contains the sacristy with an eight-part star rib vault on the ground floor.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1755, filling the entire width of the choir, was restored in 1873. The side altars in the central nave were made by the sculptor Franz Stadler (around 1755). The right side altar shows the painting Petri handing over the keys by Michael Steiner. The side altars around 1760/1770 in the side aisles probably have work by Matthias Kager . The pulpit from 1755 was created by Franz Stadler. The carved cheeks are from 1755. The baptismal font is from the 16th century. There are figural tombstones from the 15th to 18th centuries.
