Parish church Raabs an der Thaya
The Roman Catholic parish church of Raabs an der Thaya stands at the highest point of the Oberndorf near Raabs settlement in the municipality of Raabs an der Thaya in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district in Lower Austria . The parish church , consecrated on the feast of the Assumption of Mary , belongs to the deanery Waidhofen an der Thaya in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building and, as a fortified church with the churchyard and rectory and a former charnel house, barred the western access to Raabs an der Thaya Castle .
history
A parish was mentioned in a document in 1189. The church was accepted as the count's own church. A charnel house was mentioned in a document in 1429 and demolished around 1786. The church was renovated around 1860/1870, 1910/1911 and 1935/1936 and restored in 1980.
The essentially Romanesque church was built in the 13th century with the addition of the side aisles in a basilically Gothic style, with the Gothic south tower above the south choir and the nave and choir being roughly the same length.
architecture
The church is surrounded by the wall of the former cemetery and rises above a step on the east and south sides.
The three-aisled nave is grouped under a crooked roof. The west facade is unadorned with a Gothic main portal as a multi-profiled pointed arched funnel portal from the 14th century with a wooden gate from the 18th century. The nave has baroque arched windows.
Furnishing
The uniform classicistic design of the eastern high choir took place from 1778 to 1780. The high altar is connected to the sidewalk altar with wall paneling, created by the altar carpenter Johann W. Killian with the sculptor Johann Friedrich Schroth , the altar pictures were painted by Carl Auerbach.
