Raggal parish church

The parish church of St. Nikolaus und Theodul is a Roman Catholic church in the mountain village of Raggal in the Großer Walsertal (Vorarlberg). She is surrounded by the cemetery.

history

At first there was a chapel in 1455, which was expanded in 1460. It was run as a local chaplain of the Ludesch parish and raised to an independent parish church in 1586. The church was expanded between 1953 and 1954 with an anteroom with a staircase.

description

The baroque nave is connected to the Gothic choir under a shared saddle roof; a baroque church tower with an onion dome is connected to the east. In the nave is a flat ceiling with a cornice and a cove with rich stucco and stencil decoration. The high altar and the pulpit are by Andreas Rinderer from 1750, the barrel paintings by Simon, Balthasar and Anton Hörmann, the altarpiece St. Nicholas is by Franz Anton Simon, the figures St. Theodul and St. John the Baptist are by Jakob Felder. The side altar paintings of St. Joseph and Mary with Jesus are by Franz Bertle from 1870. The rear wall painting of the pulpit Moses and the tablets of the law are by Anton Jehly from 1899, the painting Rosary Madonna with St. Dominikus and Katharina von Siena by Jehly from 1906. In the anteroom a fresco of Christ as the Sower by Albert Rauch from 1959 and a stained glass painting of St. Ludwig based on a design by Rauch, executed by Dallaserra stained glass from Dornbirn.

The organ from 1895 comes from the Mayer brothers' organ building workshop .
