The Roman Catholic parish church of Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab is located in Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab in the market town of Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab in Styria . The parish church of St. Rupert belongs to the Deanery Gleisdorf in the Diocese of Graz-Seckau and is a listed building .
history
The oldest church in Eastern Styria was probably built in the middle of the 11th century and mentioned in a document in 1187. There is nothing left of the Romanesque building, the basement of the south tower has been preserved from the Gothic building. From 1728 to 1737 the church was rebuilt with the architect Fidelis Heinzl and the builder Lorenz Statthaler. A restoration took place in 1950.
architecture
The three-bay nave is designed as a pillar church with groin vaults on girders . It has high, flat chapels with galleries on the sides . The Joseph Chapel was added to the third southern yoke in the second quarter of the 17th century. The three-axis organ gallery on pillars has an entrance porch on the western front.
The two-bay choir has a semicircle, on the south side of it is the sacristy, and in turn on the south side of it the south tower, with a shoulder arch portal to the tower ground floor from 1515. The bell bullet and the onion helmet were put on at the beginning of the 18th century.
There is a coat of arms stone from 1502. Several tombstones date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Two bronze grave slabs from 1765 and 1796 can be seen outside. In front of the church there is a stone figure of St. Johannes Nepomuk with the year "1711".
Furnishing
The high altar with the older altarpiece of the church patron, St. Ruperts , designed around 1867 by the sculptor Jakob Gschiel . The figures in the church were created by the sculptors Philipp Jakob Straub and Johann Ferdinand Schmucker.
The organ was built in 1906 by Konrad Hopferwieser senior . One bell is from 1422.
