The Roman Catholic parish church Sankt Stefan ob Stainz is located in the municipality of Sankt Stefan ob Stainz in the Deutschlandsberg district in Styria . The parish church consecrated to St. Stephen belonged to the then dissolved dean's office in Deutschlandsberg in the diocese of Graz-Seckau until the end of August 2018 ; since this dean's office was closed, it has been located in the pastoral care area of ​​Southwest Styria. The church is a listed building .

history

A church / parish was mentioned in a document in 1219, which was incorporated into the Stainz monastery from 1245 to 1784 . In 1973 the church was restored inside and 1978 outside.

The core of the Romanesque nave was given a vault around 1500 and was expanded into today's four-bay, three-aisled hall church.

Furnishing

The high altar

The neo-Gothic furnishings were built between 1870 and 1880. The high altar statues were created by the sculptor Jakob Gschiel .
