Schattendorf parish church

The Roman Catholic parish church Schattendorf stands on an elevated area outside the village, close to the Hungarian border, in the market town of Schattendorf in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . The parish church , consecrated to St. Michael the Archangel , belongs to the Mattersburg deanery in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is a listed building .
history
A parish was mentioned before 1588. According to an inscription in the church, today's church was built from 1700 to 1707 using older masonry. The tower was built in 1747. In 1970 a restoration took place.
architecture
The baroque church building with a nave and the same width choir with a polygonal end has a west tower. The facade gable ends with step-shaped bricks. The massive three-storey tower - probably older at the bottom - with loopholes carries a stone pyramid helmet between small bomb-crowned corner pyramids.
The nave is a high, four-bay room under a barrel vault with stitch caps and straps on pilasters. The three-axis gallery has groined vaults. There are double pillars at the transition to the choir. The choir has a barrel vault, above the apse is a bowl with stitch caps, the pilaster capitals show gold-plated volutes and rocailles. In the north wall of the choir is a sacristy portal with stucco and the inscription Privis Cor abege you Ad Sacra Perege Ao 1703 and a double window to the oratory.
Furnishing
The high altar is from the first half of the 18th century and has a tabernacle with angels. On the apse wall, a remarkable altarpiece in a Rocailles frame shows St. Michael and the Fall of the Angel referred to as Scóla Tintoretto .
