The Roman Catholic parish church Schenkenfelden is in the market town of Schenkenfelden in the Urfahr-Umgebung district in Upper Austria . The St. Ägid consecrated parish church belongs to the deanery Freistadt in the Diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building .

history

The church was built in 1525. It stands in the middle of the market square, which measures exactly 100 × 100 meters, i.e. one hectare. In 1951 it was badly damaged by a market fire and the originally baroque spire was destroyed and today's pointed helmet was built. In 1967/68 a renovation took place and the left side chapel was added by Anton Zemann .

architecture

The parish church, mainly built in the late Gothic style, goes back to an originally Romanesque predecessor, the nave of which gave way to a new building in the 16th century. The two-aisled, three-bay hall church has an unusually powerful 48-meter-high pointed tower and a retracted, single-bay choir.

Furnishing

The former historicist furnishings were removed and replaced by a folk altar made of Bohemian granite in the 1980s. The bronze door (1997), the way of the cross (1985) and some figures are by Peter Dimmel .
