The parish church of St. Georgen am Reith stands high on a rock plateau that slopes steeply towards the Ybbs in the municipality of St. Georgen am Reith in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. George , belongs to the dean's office in Waidhofen an der Ybbs in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Documented in the 11th century belonging to the Aschbach parish . In the second half of the 12th century the parish was incorporated into the Diocese of Passau . In the 13th century the parish belonged to Hollenstein . Around 1500 parish vicariate of Opponitz . Protestant from 1537 to 1628 . From 1628 to 1717 again at Opponitz, with 1717 vicariate.

The Gothic church was baroque with additions and alterations in 1683 and 1780 and regothicized in 1901.

architecture

The late Gothic hall church with a massive west tower is surrounded by a cemetery with a high clapboard wall with a gate hall.

Furnishing

The high altar around 1900 is a niche retable with Fial essays, it shows the reliefs Epiphany and Last Supper, and carries the statues George with angels, as well as Peter and Paul.

Leopold Breinbauer built the organ in a neo-Gothic case in 1912. Hans Winkler mentions a bell in 1579.
