The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Margarethen an der Raab is located in the market town of St. Margarethen an der Raab in Styria . The parish church of St. Margareta belongs to the Deanery Gleisdorf in the Diocese of Graz-Seckau and is a listed building .
history
The parish church replaced an older, smaller church building around 1510, as indicated by the date "1513" on the south portal. The dating 1322 on the west tower probably comes from the old building. The church was renewed towards the end of the 19th century, a complete restoration took place in 1970, the last renovation in 1991. The church is one of the few preserved Gothic country churches in the region.
architecture
The exterior has stepped buttresses. The three-bay nave has a ribbed vault. On the third yoke there are two side chapels and a sacristy from the 18th century. The west portal was renewed in 1871. The richly structured keel arch portal on the southern front was walled up. The presented square west tower has a ribbed vault in the basement, the bell chamber was added in 1616. The organ gallery was built around 1800. A fresco by Ludwig von Kurz zum Thurn und Goldenstein (1931) can be seen on the front arch .
The retracted single-bay choir with a 3/6 end has half a diamond star vault on consoles. In 1998 Adolf Osterider designed two windows with the motifs of baptism and resurrection.
Furnishing
The facility was partially renewed in the course of the regotisation according to the plans of the architect Johann Pascher in 1896/97. The high altar and parts of the left side altar date from the second half of the 18th century. Pulpit, baptismal font and a figure of St. Christophorus on the outside of the south portal was created by the sculptor Alfred Schlosser (1970/1971). The holy water kettle and a sacrificial candle stand were designed by the sculptor Fred Höfler (1998).
