Ludwig von Kurz zum Thurn and Goldenstein (born October 7, 1850 in Laibach , Duchy of Krain , † March 11, 1939 in Graz , Styria ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Ludwig von Kurz was born as the son of the academic history painter Franz Seraphin Maximilian Sebastian Ritter von Kurz zum Thurn und Goldenstein and his wife Theresia. In 1867 the family moved from Laibach to Graz. The father promoted his son's artistic interest and first gave him lessons. Then he attended the Landscape Drawing Academy in Graz, which was headed from 1840 by the Nazarene Joseph Ernst Tunner , who taught Ludwig von Kurz from October 1867 to July 1870. Ludwig von Kurz made friends at the drawing academy with Hermann von Königsbrunn , who was responsible for landscape painting. At the Academy’s exhibition in 1870, Ludwig von Kurz took first place in oil painting, in copying according to antiquity and in historical paintings and nature drawing.
