history

The wide three-aisled pillar basilica under a gable roof with a transept was built from 1924 to 1929 in Romanesque style according to the plans of the master builder Matthäus Schlager . The square in front of the entrance facade was named Pater-Paulus-Platz and a memorial plaque was attached to the church for Paulus Wörndl as the first pastor of the church.

architecture

There are three portals on the north side, the middle portal is funnel-shaped, the facades have arched windows and a historicized eaves cornice. The retracted choir has a round apse. To the west of the church, on Mariazeller Straße, is a free-standing cast metal statue of Christ by the sculptor Karl Schwerzek . The high church tower under a gable roof is positioned to the west by the transept and choir.

Inside, the church and the organ gallery on the north side are vaulted throughout and have a monumental baroque design. The furnishings of the church, such as high altar, stipes with stepped reredos, tabernacles with reliefs, like a statue of St. Josef, were created in 1933 based on designs by the sculptor Heinrich Zita . The wall paintings in the vaults and in the shallow arched niches of the apse and the side altars are by the painter Sepp Zöchling in 1958.
