The Roman Catholic parish church Viktring-Stein is in the district of Stein in the 13th district of Viktring in the municipality of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee in Carinthia . The parish church of St. Florian belongs to the dean's office of Klagenfurt-Stadt in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt . The church and the former cemetery are under monument protection .

history

The previous church was documented in the years 1143 to 1147 by Count Bernhard von Spanheim (* before 1097; † 1147) (also Bernhard von Trixen ) from the Spanheimer family, together with his wife, as a gift to the Viktring monks. In 1193 the monks converted the church into a farm. From 1258 to 1264 the church was restored and made a parish church. In the years 1762 to 1765 a baroque nave was built as a new building and from 1769 to 1773 the tower under the abbot of Viktring.

architecture

The church stands on a hill and is surrounded by a cemetery. The church building has a nave with chapel niches protruding on both sides and a flat three-sided choir. A two-storey sacristy was added to the south. In the west a church tower with an onion helmet is built onto an open vestibule with round arches. The nave and choir were built with a barrel vault with stitch caps on pilasters and composite capitals. The groin vaulted organ gallery on two round columns has a wooden parapet. In the choir there are ornamental glass windows from 1894. The ceiling painting shows the martyrdom of St. Florian.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is uniform in the late Rococo style. The high altar was created by the sculptor Benedikt Pläß and the carpenter Joseph Kapfer in 1770. The high altar picture St. Florian and the top picture Trinity are by the painter Eustachius Gabriel . To the side of it are the figures of St. Sebastian and St. Rochus . The top of the high altar bears the double coat of arms of Abbot Bernhard Winterl. In front of the high altar is a wide tabernacle structure with reliquaries on the side and four adoring angels by Benedikt Pläß. The popular altar and the ambo in the Baroque style were installed between 1989 and 1990.

There are four bells, a bell by Peter Pfinzing from 1521, a bell by Mathias Landsmann from 1675, and two bells from the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck from 1989.

Church cemetery

Gravestones are on the nave wall, in the cemetery wall and in the cemetery; Noteworthy are those of the Moro family from the 19th century, as well as the bronze bust of Max Ritter von Moro made by the sculptor Jakob Wald in 1900. In the cemetery there is a uniformly designed war memorial for the First World War, the Carinthian defensive battle and the Second World War.
