Bernhard von Spanheim (* before 1097; † November 16, 1147 in Laodicea ) from the Spanheimer dynasty , was always named as Count without a place name during his lifetime, with one exception as Count of Carinthia . It is certain that he was Count von Truchsen / Trixen . The designation as Count of Marburg , however, is misleading, it comes from the Landbuch von Österreich and Steier , but there was no such county. Bernhard was also Vogt of St. Paul and St. Lamprecht .

Live and act

Bernhard was the son of Count Engelbert I von Spanheim and Hedwig, whose origin is still disputed today.

In 1098 he appears for the first time in a document together with his brothers Engelbert II , Hartwig I , Siegfried I and Heinrich IV . In 1123/26 Bernhard appeared for the first time together with his wife Kunigunde Margravine von Steier, sister of Margrave Leopold the Strong of Styria († 1129).

Due to his family ties, he was guardian of her nephew Otakar III from 1129 . Bernhard and his wife founded the Viktring monastery in 1142 and became its first bailiff. With the help of his relative, Duke Heinrich V , he settled the monastery with monks from Weiler-Bettnach .

He bequeathed his allodial property and ministerial in Carinthia to his former ward and fell on November 16, 1147 in Laodicea on the Second Crusade .
