Heinrich IV. (Carinthia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich IV of Carinthia (around 1065/70; † December 14, 1123 ) from the Spanheim family was Duke of Carinthia and Margrave of Verona from 1122–1123 .

He was the eldest son of Count Engelbert I von Spanheim and Hedwig von Sachsen, daughter of Duke Bernhard II . After the death of his godfather (not: uncle) Duke Heinrich III. From Carinthia , the last Eppensteiner , he inherited the ducal and margrave dignity from him in 1122 , but not his rich allodes , which fell to the Traungau family . (As a result, for example, the "provincia Graslupp", i.e. the entire Neumarkt and Sankt Lambrecht area, and the Murau region , which had previously belonged to Carinthia (Grafschaft Friesach ), fell to Styria .) The margraviate was, however, only in personal union affiliated to the Duchy of Carinthia.

Heinrich died a year after taking over the government in 1123. His brother Engelbert was his successor .
