Parish church Wölfnitz an der Saualpe
The Roman Catholic parish church of Wölfnitz an der Saualpe is located in the village of Wölfnitz in the cadastral community of Wölfnitz in the market town of Griffen .
The church stands 1127 meters above sea level on the southern slope of the Saualpe and is surrounded by a defensive wall with loopholes. The church, first mentioned in a document in 1237, is dedicated to St. Michael . There are some partisan graves from the Second World War at the cemetery .

The church, which is essentially Romanesque , was structurally changed in the 15th century. The Gothic north tower with wall slots, two and three-part acoustic windows and a pointed arched east portal is crowned by a pyramid helmet. The tower and nave are covered with stone slabs. Two-tiered buttresses support the polygonal choir. You enter the church through the pointed south portal with a wooden canopy.
The nave has a ribbed vault over semicircular pillars in the two eastern bays and a baroque groin vault in the two western bays that were added later . A round-arched triumphal arch with fighters connects the nave with the one-bay choir with a five-eighth end . A ribbed vault from the 15th century on head consoles rises above the choir. On the north side of the choir there is a keel-arched sacrament niche .
At the high altar are a late Gothic saint Michael, some of which has been reworked and gilded, as well as two baroque angel figures from the 19th century. Another 19th century statue of Michael stands in front of the altar. The statuettes of Saints James , Joachim and Anna are attached to the walls .
