history

In the 9th and 10th centuries the area around Wartberg belonged to the mother parish of Naarn . According to the document, Sigihart's own church was handed over to St. Florian Monastery in 1111 . It was consecrated in 1128. In 1208 a parish is mentioned in a document. In 1635 the parish went to the Reichenstein rulership, and in 1729 to the Haus rulership.

The construction of the church began in the 14th century with the choir, the Holy Cross chapel and the tower. In 1443 a letter of indulgence was written for the construction of the nave. The Gothic church was consecrated in 1508. In 1690 a sacristy was added. From 1889 to 1894, all stone parts were reworked during a restoration, and in 1963 the neo-Gothic side altars were removed. In 1983 the church was restored outside and 1985 inside.

architecture

The remarkable overall arrangement of the parish church with Michael's chapel and the former Karner is surrounded by a cemetery with a fortified churchyard wall.

The important late Gothic hall church has elaborately designed galleries in the west and north. The three-aisled, four-bay nave has different ribbed vaults over octagonal pillars with remarkable shapes, and also remarkable portals. The older Gothic, recessed two-bay choir with a five-eighth end is vaulted with cross ribs. In the northern corner of the choir on the tower, which is inserted into the nave, there is an almost square, single-bay burial chapel, formerly the Holy Cross Chapel - the baroque sacristy is added to the southern corner of the choir. The tower of the previous church protrudes into the two eastern yokes of the late Gothic north aisle.

For the most part, only the preliminary drawings of the wall painting cycle from the fourth quarter of the 14th century have survived.

Furnishing

The remarkable neo-Gothic high altar is named on the back by Josef Kepplinger 1892. The late-Gothic stone pulpit was built in the early 16th century.

Church organ (2016)

The organ was built in 1900 by Leopold Breinbauer in a neo-Gothic three-field case. There is a pair of nineteenth-century timpani. One bell was built around 1320. Hans Rohrer names a second bell 1671 and shows the reliefs Coronation of Mary, Mary with Child, Anna herself third. The death bell names 1737.
