The Pfistermühle is the former flour mill and bakery of the Hofpfisterei in Munich's old town . It is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.

history

Originally the Hofpfisterei was located on the northeast corner of the Old Court . There was also a mill there, which was initially called Torantsmühle and later Hofmühle. After a fire in 1578, the Pfisterei and Mühle were relocated to a new building on the other side of the Pfisterbach . At that time, the stream flowed at the site of today's Sparkassenstrasse and supplied the energy to operate the mill.

The three-story building with a crooked roof was badly damaged in World War II. Only outer walls, a vault on the ground floor and a stone staircase to the upper floor remained. After the war, the bakery was repaired so that production could be resumed from 1948. The State Palace Administration sold the Pfistermühle in 1958. The headquarters of the Hofpfisterei were relocated to Kreittmayrstrasse in 1964. The original appearance of the still existing part of the building was restored in 1987/88, at the same time it was converted into a restaurant, which has been serving upscale Bavarian cuisine ever since . The north-east and north-west facade are almost completely overgrown with climbing plants today .
