Pham Thi Hoai
Phạm Thị Hoài (* 1960 in the province of Hải Dương , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese writer and translator who lives in Berlin .
Life
Growing up in northern Vietnam, Phạm Thị Hoài came to East Berlin in 1977 to study at Humboldt University , where she graduated as an archivist in 1983. In the same year her first volume of short stories was published, Five Days . Back in Vietnam, she lived in Hanoi, worked in the profession she had learned, and began to write. She published her first novel Thiên sứ ( The Crystal Messenger ) in 1988, which was quickly translated into several languages. She has lived in Berlin again since 2000 . She is the founder of the internet publication "Talawas". Her latest blog is called "Pro & Contra" (procontra.asia). She has translated numerous works by important German-speaking authors into Vietnamese: Franz Kafka , Bertolt Brecht , Thomas Bernhard and Friedrich Dürrenmatt .
