The brown fruit pigeons ( Phapitreron ) are a genus of pigeon birds . The number of pigeon species belonging to this genus is constantly increasing due to new research and molecular biological investigations. At Rösler, only two species were counted among the brown fruit pigeons in 1996; in 2001, three species were assumed. All species occur exclusively in the Philippines .
properties
The plumage of the brown fruit pigeons is predominantly brown. A noticeable stripe of color runs under the eye. The neck has a metallic shimmer. All species are tree-dwelling, predominantly solitary pigeons whose way of life is tied to the forest. The structure of the digestive tract suggests a relationship with the green pigeon .
Brown fruit pigeons split into individual species not too long ago. In their area of distribution, they each use different ecological niches.
