The Philippines black pigeon ( Phapitreron leucotis ), also called the smaller brown fruit pigeon or white-eared pigeon , is a species of pigeon birds. It occurs exclusively on some Philippine islands.
Appearance
The Philippines black-line pigeon reaches a body length of 25 centimeters. It is therefore smaller than the amethyst dove and dark-eared dove belonging to the same genus . Their plumage is generally warm, dark brown. The bottom of the body is slightly lighter than the top. The throat has a reddish tinge. The forehead is pale gray. The neck and the cloak plumage have a metallic bronze-green sheen. The head drawing is noticeable. Starting from the base of the beak, a narrow, dark strip of color runs below the eye. There is a white strip of color underneath. In contrast to the amethyst and dark-eared dove, the beak of this species is narrow and delicate.
Spread and behavior
The Philippines black-streaked pigeon occurs on a large number of Philippine islands, making it the largest range of all brown fruit pigeons. It has so far been used on Alabat , Basilan , Bohol , Balut , Calagna-an , Calicoan , Camiguin-Sur , Catanduanes , Cebu , Dinagat , Guimaras , Jolo , Leyte , Lubang , Luzon , Marinduque , Masbate , Mindanao , Mindoro , Negros , Panay , Samar , Siargao , Sibuyan , Siquijor , Tablas , Ticao and Verde observed.
It is adaptable in its habitat requirements and colonizes different types of forest. This includes primary forest , open forest areas, secondary forest, forest edges as well as scrub and bamboo thickets. It occurs from the lowlands up to an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is a predominantly tree-dwelling species. It feeds mainly on fruits. The breeding season begins in March and lasts until at least June. The nest is built in trees.
