The Phare de l'Espiguette is a 27 meter high square lighthouse in southern France. It is located in the town of Le Grau-du-Roi in the Gard department on the Mediterranean coast of the Golfe du Lion .
The Espiguette headland is a large dune area (197 hectares) that is classified as a nature reserve by the Conservatoire du littoral (French coastal protection agency, official name Conservatoire de l'espace littoral et des rivages lacustres ).
The Espiguette lighthouse was built in 1869. Originally it was only 150 meters from the coastline. The coast was silted up by the ocean current, so that today it is more than 700 meters away from the coast. The beacon generated by a 1000 watt halogen lamp has a range of 24 nautical miles and generates three white flashes (15 seconds) through a rotating lens.
