Philip Charles "Phil" Harris (* 19th December 1956 in Bothell ; † 9. February 2010 in Anchorage ) was an American captain and co-owner of the crab fishing vessel Cornelia Marie and in this capacity from 2004 until his death contributor to the documentary - TV Series The most dangerous job in Alaska .

Life

Phil Harris comes from the small town of Bothell in the US state of Washington . His mother died when he was eight years old. The two sons Jake and Josh, who worked as deckhands on their father's ship, come from his first marriage. Harris took his first job on deck of the American Eagle fishing boat at the age of 17, where he initially suffered from severe seasickness and worked for three months without pay. Only when another deckhand was injured and sidelined did he take his place on board and was paid. Among other things, he used the money he earned on the Arctic Ocean to buy his first Corvette .

At the age of 21 he became captain of the Golden Viking for a short time , but soon switched to another ship. In 1990 he became captain of the Cornelia Marie and was also able to acquire a stake.

During the unloading of his ship, Phil Harris suffered a severe stroke on January 29, 2010 in the port of Saint-Paul-Island , from which he initially recovered. On February 9, 2010, Captain Phil Harris died in Anchorage at the age of 53 from complications from another stroke.

In the role of captain of Cornelia Marie , Phil Harris appeared in over 70 episodes of the documentary television series The Most Dangerous Job in Alaska , which is broadcast in Germany on the DMAX channel, among others .
