Philharmonic

The Kaunas Philharmonic (lit. Kauno valstybinė filharmonija ) is a concert company in Kaunas , the second largest city in Lithuania . The Kaunas State Choir , the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra and the Kaunas String Quartet play in the Philharmonie . The hall has 530 seats.

history

The Philharmonic building on the corner of E. Ožeškienės and L. Sapiegos Streets was constructed from 1925 to August 1928 according to plans by the architect Edmundas Frykas . The style of the four-storey building is neoclassicism enriched with Art Deco elements .

The Lithuanian Ministry of Justice and courts were housed in the building. From 1936 to 1940 the fourth Seimas , the Lithuanian Parliament, had its sessions in the Philharmonic.

The building is part of the cultural heritage. From 2005 to 2008 it was reconstructed according to plans by the architect Rymantė Gudienė.
