Philip Powell Calvert

Philip Powell Calvert (born January 29, 1871 , † August 23, 1961 ) was an American entomologist who has made a name for himself in particular in the order of the Odonata . He was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and president of the American Entomological Society from 1900 to 1915. His publication Catalog of the Odonata (dragonflies) of the Vicinity of Philadelphia, with an Introduction to the Study of this Group from 1893 served as a model for regional insect research and was one of the first attempts to create an overview of the order. In addition, Calvert made over 300 other publications in this field.

In 1918 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society .
