Philip Szanyiel (born December 23,  1960 in Manosque ) is a retired French basketball player .

career

Szanyiel's first stop in the top French division was from 1976 to 1978 Avignon. Between 1978 and 1986 he wore the colors of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne . In 1981 the 2.04 meter indoor player became French champion with ASVEL, he scored an average of 16 points per match during the championship year. Between 1981 and 1985, Szanyiel achieved an average of more than 20 points in each game year. In 1983 he was named the best domestic player in the French league. In the same year he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup with ASVEL under player-coach Alain Gilles . With 26 points Szanyiel was ASVEL's best thrower in the final against US Scavolini Victoria Libertas from Italy, but they lost with 99: 111.

In 1986 he moved to AS Monaco and stayed in the principality until 1988. Four years in Mulhouse followed . With the team he was relegated to the second division in 1992, where he ended his career in 1994.

Szanyiel was first used in 1977 for the French national team, at the time he was 17 years and four months old. In 1981 he took part in his first European championship finals, at the EM 1983 in his own country Szanyiel was one of the best basket shooters of the tournament, with 19.6 per match he was sixth on the basketball list. At the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles  , he was part of France's squad and led the team with 17.9 points per game. In 1985 and 1991 he took part in other European championship final tournaments. The left-hander had a total of 192 internationals.

Szanyiel became a coach and was an assistant coach on the staff of CSP Limoges from 1997 to 2000 . In 2000/01 he was assistant coach at FC Mulhouse, then head coach there in the 2001/02 season and head coach in Ajaccio in 2003/04. He then became the coach of Stade Clermontois.
