Philipp Jakob Röth

Philipp Jakob Heinrich Roeth , also Rötch or Roetch , (born March 6, 1779 in Munich ; † January 27, 1850 ibid) was a German cello player , composer and conductor .

Röth learned to play the cello from the royal Bavarian court musician Schwarz. He studied composition with Peter von Winter in Munich. Most of the time, however, Röth trained as an autodidact by studying scores by older and contemporary masters, e. B. those of Mozart , Haydn and Cherubinis .

He brought out his first attempts at composition (songs, variations for flute) in Vienna with Artaria . Then he created various concerts that met with acclaim.

His first opera Holnara came out in 1809 at the Royal Court Theater in Munich , a second very successful was Der Lächter Robert . In 1796 Röth was employed as a royal court musician. He also tried his hand at church music.
