Philipp Keim

Georg Philipp Keim (born November 7, 1804 in Diedenbergen , † July 2, 1884 in Diedenbergen) was a Nassau poet and popular newspaper singer.

life and work

Georg Philipp Keim was born on November 7, 1804 as the youngest of eleven children of the Diedenberg school teacher Johann Heinrich Keim in Diedenbergen. After finishing school, he learned the cooper's trade . At the age of 17, he went blind as a journeyman as a result of excessive heat and a sudden cold while working as a cooper in the ducal castle cellar in Biebrich. The then Duke Wilhelm von Nassau gave the blind young man a barrel organ and, with a certificate, allowed him to make music unhindered in the whole of the Duchy of Nassau, but especially in the spa towns and seaside resorts.

In Diedenbergen , the Philipp Keim School and Street bear the name of Keim.
