Philipp Lichtenthaler

Philipp Lichtenthaler (born May 8, 1778 in Sulzbach am Main , † November 12, 1857 ) was a German librarian .

Life

Lichtenthaler studied philosophy and theology and was appointed to the grammar school in Munich from Bamberg in 1811. In 1815 he became a professor and court librarian in Würzburg . After his transfer to Munich (1825) he was director of the Bavarian court and state library from 1826 to 1855 . Under his aegis, the move to the new building on Ludwigstrasse and the separation of the library from the Bavarian Academy of Sciences took place .
