Works

Modersohn's works appear as reflections of geological processes such as solidification, displacement, erosion and sedimentation. The material basis of his sculptures - whether in sand, concrete, metal or glass - is mostly formed by the rock, which takes on the most varied of "aggregate states": from firmly bonded to already weathered to only loosely arranged granules.

Modersohn's work can be read both as an object and as a process. The thoroughly ambivalent objects refer on the one hand to global natural phenomena, but on the other hand also explicitly to the role of humans in them. The final shape of the objects themselves, however, is not determined by the artist alone, but arises from the interplay between the designer and the process. As a result, the works cannot be precisely classified, assigned and referenced without explicitly naming them.
