Philipp Schweinfurth

Philipp Schweinfurth (born August 29, 1887 in Riga , † June 26, 1954 in Istanbul ) was a German-Baltic art historian .

He studied from 1907 to 1910 at the University of Heidelberg , where he received his doctorate in 1910. From 1911 to 1914 he worked as a volunteer at the Alte Pinakothek and at the Völkerkunde Museum in Munich. From 1914 to 1919 he taught at the Technical University of Riga , from 1919 to 1926 at the Latvian University of Riga , where he also completed his habilitation. Since 1927 he was a private lecturer for Byzantine-Eastern European art at the University of Breslau , since 1932 associate professor there, since 1932 associate professor, since 1939 extraordinary professor at the University of Berlin . From 1950 to 1954 he taught as a professor of Byzantine art history at Istanbul University .
