Philipp Sigmund Freiherr Wolfskeel von Reichenberg (* 1762 in Reichenberg ; † February 26, 1828 in Preßburg ) was an Imperial Austrian major and holder of the Military Maria Theresa Order .

Life dates

Philipp Sigmund Freiherr Wolfskeel von Reichenberg came from the Franconian aristocratic family Wolfskeel . He was born in Reichenberg in 1762 as the son of Johann Gottfried Ernst Freiherr Wolfskeel von Reichenberg and Marie Sophie Johanna Freifrau Wolfskeel von Reichenberg, née Freiin von Schaumburg. He died on February 26, 1828 in Pressburg.

Military career

At the age of 18, Philipp Sigmund Freiherr Wolfskeel von Reichenberg joined the Imperial Cavalry Regiment No. 18 as a cadet . There he was promoted to lieutenant in 1784 . In 1788 he went to the Turkish War as a first lieutenant with this regiment , where he took part in over 28 battles with the enemy. At the Battle of Martinestje on September 22, 1789, Baron Wolfskeel von Reichenberg distinguished himself when he and his squadron carried out constant attacks against the enemy, who were ten times the number of times superior, in order to give the imperial army time to reorganize. The watching Russian General Suwarow had Baron Wolfskeel extend his heartfelt thanks and congratulations on the battlefield. On December 19, 1796, Baron Wolfskeel von Reichenberg was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order by Emperor Leopold II for his deed . In 1796 Wolfskeel took part in campaigns in Germany and in 1799 in Italy. After the Peace of Luneviller , he resigned from the active army in 1801 and took over the peace employment of a place major in Essegg .
