Philipp von Appen

Philipp von Appen (* 1953 in Dresden ) is a German sculptor .

Philipp von Appen was born in Dresden as the grandson of the set designer Karl von Appen . Here he spent his childhood and school days and passed the Abitur . From 1970 to 1973 he trained as a machine and system fitter. From 1977 he learned the basics of sculpture through lessons from his parents.

His works have been shown in various exhibitions, for example in 1982 at an artist exhibition in the pretentious hall of the Dresden Palace . From 1983 to 1990 he participated several times in other exhibitions and sculpture symposiums in Saxony , Lausitz and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . For more than twenty years he created his works in the Appenhof near Meißen , led sculpture courses and worked with children on his sculpture farm. In 1991 he took part in the international sculpture symposium "Umtriebisch" in the Appenhof.

Other exhibitions in which he was involved were those from 1991 to 1995 in the Haus der Heimat Freital , in the Altzella monastery park near Nossen . He was also involved in the organization of the international artist symposium in Dresden Frauenkirche . In 1989 he went on a study trip and moved to Potsdam on his return . He has been working as a freelancer since 1995. In 2002 he settled in an old ferry house in Uetz near Potsdam. His objects, often designed as torsos , consist of different materials such as marble, metal, sandstone, wood, plaster of paris or concrete.
