Philipp von Gundelsheim
Philipp von Gundelsheim (* 1487 ; † September 14, 1553 in Porrentruy ) was Bishop of Basel from 1527 to 1553.
Philipp came from the Frankish family of Gundelsheim . He studied in Heidelberg and later in Basel . There he is also attested as a canon . As the last Prince-Bishop of Basel , he ceremoniously entered the city. In the course of the Reformation he was forced to move his seat to Porrentruy. Many believers were lost to the new teaching. Due to the insolvency of the bishopric, the bishop became financially dependent on the Protestant city of Basel .
