Philippe Bruggisser (philologist)

Philippe Bruggisser (* 1955 ; † January 27, 2014 ) was a Swiss classical philologist ( Latinist ).

Philippe Bruggisser received his doctorate in 1985 from the Swiss University of Friborg , where he also completed his habilitation and taught as a private lecturer from 1991 . In 1996 he became a full-time lecturer; In 2001 he took over the development and management of the master’s program for education and research. In 2006 he was appointed professor at what was then the Department of Classical Studies at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Freiburg (since 2010 Institute for Antiquity and Byzantium). He headed the bachelor's and master's degree in classical philology and was responsible for the structure of the Latin language and culture studies .

His main research area was the Latin literature of late antiquity . His dissertation dealt with the Romulus legend in the Virgil commentary by Servius , his habilitation thesis on literary friendship in the letters of Quintus Aurelius Symmachus .
