Philippe Corentin (real name Philippe Le Saux ; born February 16, 1936 in Boulogne-Billancourt , France ) is a French cartoonist , children's book author and illustrator .

Life

Philippe Corentin grew up in Quimper . In 1968 his first drawings appear in the magazine L'Enragé , where his humorous style was already evident. Many of his cartoons, drawings and children's books are still a permanent fixture in educational institutions today. In kindergartens, elementary schools or children's and youth libraries, picture books like “Papa!” Or “Plumps!” Are widespread literature.

Corentin often deals with topics such as general primal fears of childhood, such as the fear of the big bad wolf, the fear of the dark, falling asleep and the relationships in everyday life. So he helps the reader with his cheerful texts and pictures to dress them in words and pictures and to defuse the fears with a smile.

Its target group are children as well as adults. His characters often meet surreally in a world in which human behavior and that of animals mix. Its monsters have the same characteristics and habits as humans. As an autodidact, Corentin occupies an atypical place among other authors and illustrators. However, his awards confirm his place among the renowned children's book illustrators.

Corentin has no educational claim, but because he also likes to amuse himself, he says of himself “I try to make the children laugh. That's all! ” ( “ J'essaie de faire rire les enfants, c'est tout. ” ) And he succeeds in doing this with his books, which is not only demonstrated by the many translations into German.
