Philippe Samyn

Philippe ritter Samyn (born September 1, 1948 in Gent , Belgium ) is a Belgian architect and engineer whose style is characterized by the generous use of often monumental glass, wood and steel structures.

Biographical overview

Philippe Samyn attended high school in Ghent, where he was born, before moving to Brussels with his family . He was already interested in art, architecture, science and technology in his youth.

He completed his studies as civil engineering at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) from 1971. He then studied engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and urban planning at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) until 1973 - he finished both courses in 1973 the master’s degree. In 1985 he completed his postgraduate course in business management at the Solvay Business School. In 1999 he was awarded a doctorate in engineering from the University of Liège .

From 1972 Philippe Samyn worked as a consulting architect and engineer in various architecture and engineering firms before founding Philippe Samyn and Partners in 1980 .

Philippe Samyn is Commander of the Order of Leopold and a member of the Royal Belgian Academy of Arts and Humanities. On July 13, 2012 he was honored by King Albert II with the knighthood.

Philippe Samyn and Partners is an architecture and engineering office founded in 1980 that works on a wide range of projects from landscape and building planning to object and product design. The office is located in the Orangenprinz quarter in the south of Brussels and currently (2013) has around fifty employees. ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001: 2015 and VALIDEO are certified.
