Philippe Stern (entrepreneur)
Philippe Stern (* 1938 in Geneva ) is a Swiss entrepreneur . He was president of the Geneva watch manufacturer Patek Philippe from 1977 to 2009.
Life
Philippe Stern studied business administration at the University of Geneva and initially worked for a computer company in Germany, then at the Henri Stern Watch Agency, a wholesale company for Patek Philippe watches in New York, founded by his father. From 1966 he worked at Patek Philippe's headquarters in Geneva and in 1977 took over the management of the family business Patek Philippe. He built the brand into a leading company worldwide. Among other things, he initiated the Patek Philippe Museum with 2000 exhibits. In 2009 he handed over the management of the company to his son Thierry and moved to the board of directors of the family company.
Philippe Stern was part of the Swiss World Cup team in the downhill skiing discipline. Later he was a seven-time winner of the Bol d'Or sailing regatta .
Stern lives in Geneva and has two children. The family's fortune is estimated at two to three billion Swiss francs.
