Phillips White

Phillips White (born October 28, 1729 in Haverhill , Essex County , Province of Massachusetts , †  June 24, 1811 in South Hampton , New Hampshire ) was an American politician . In 1782 and 1783 he was a delegate for New Hampshire to the Continental Congress .

Career

Phillips White attended public schools in his home country. He later graduated from Harvard College . At the beginning of the Seven Years' War he was an officer in the colonial troops. He later moved to New Hampshire where he worked as a farmer. In the 1770s he joined the revolutionary movement. Between 1775 and 1782 he was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives , where he was president of this Chamber of Representatives in 1775 and 1782. In 1782 and 1783 he represented his state in the Continental Congress. From 1776 to 1790 Phillips White served as a probate judge in Rockingham County ; from 1792 to 1794 he was a councilor for the state government. He then retired to his farm near South Hampton, where he died on June 24, 1811.
