Philoxenos (architect)
Philoxenos ( ancient Greek Φιλόξενος ) was a Greek architect who worked in Constantinople in the first half of the 4th century .

He built a cistern under Constantine I , which is still preserved today and is located between the Lausos Palace and the Forum Constantini . The cistern is known today under the name Philoxenus Cistern, Cistern of 1001 Columns or Binbirdirek Cistern and was probably located under the Palace of Antiochus . It has 224 columns in 16 by 14 rows, is 64 × 56.4 meters in size and has a capacity of around 40,000 m³.
