Phlebotomus perniciosus is a butterfly mosquito within the subfamily of sand flies (Phlebotominae).
features
The mosquitoes are about two millimeters long. Outwardly they hardly differ from Phlebotomus ariasi and are also yellowish-gray in color and have a reddish-brown thorax . Your body is hairy evenly. A distinction between the two types is only possible on the basis of genital examinations .
Way of life and distribution
The animals are found in the entire Mediterranean area , east to Iran . The flight time in France is from July to August, in Algeria from May to November. The imagines are not picky about its host choice and suck blood, especially of sheep and dogs, but also humans. It is believed that the species transmits Leishmania ( Leishmania ).
