Phonematics
Phonematics is a linguistic term that is used differently depending on the context . It can be used as:
- Synonymous with phonology , as
- Generic term for phonetics and phonology or as
- Term for (segmental) phonology in contrast to prosody , the generic term for both is then the phonemics .
When used as a synonym for phonology or as a generic term for phonetics and phonology, phonematics corresponds to the current use of phonemics , which is why the two terms are also regarded as synonyms.
