phpMyAdmin ( short pMA ) is a free web application for administration of MySQL - databases and their Fork MariaDB . The software is implemented in PHP ; hence the name phpMyAdmin . Most functions can be performed without writing SQL statements, such as B. List records, create / delete tables, add columns, create / delete databases and manage users.
phpMyAdmin is licensed under the GNU General Public License and is also included in many Linux distributions . 75 languages are currently supported, with the translation being more or less complete depending on the language.
phpMyAdmin is widespread and is among other major Web hosting - providers used.
history
phpMyAdmin was initiated by Tobias Ratschiller and, like phpPgAdmin, is based on Peter Kuppelwieser's MySQL Webadmin from 1997. Kuppelwieser's idea was to implement a web-based application for the administration of MySQL. Tobias Ratschiller started working on a PHP-based web frontend for MySQL in 1998 . In 2000 he stopped his work due to lack of time. At that time phpMyAdmin was already one of the most popular PHP applications and MySQL administration tools and had a large user and developer community. In 2001 Olivier Müller, Marc Delisle and Loïc Chapeaux registered the phpMyAdmin project at Sourceforge and continued development there.
The project is currently being supervised by Olivier Müller, Marc Delisle, Alexander M. Turek, Michal Čihař, Garvin Hicking and Sebastian Mendel.
