The Phunk Junkeez are a crossover band from Phoenix ( Arizona ) who have built up a large fan base in the USA and Japan since they were founded in 1991 . Their music ranges from hardcore punk to trip hop .
Band history
During the early days, the Phunk Junkeez concerts mostly played in warehouses, which they broke into on the evening of the show. The appearances were promoted through word of mouth. This led to many conflicts with the local police, who threatened to arrest the band several times.
At a concert in 1993 at the Mesa Amphitheater, the band pulled the concert over curfew. Not even the threat of calling the police made the band stop. After the amplifiers in the theater were switched off, the band only played with the stage amplifiers until all the lights went out. After the performance, K-tel-Disco, a band member at the time, rioted and threatened the producer who drove home without paying the band. Phunk Junkeez were no longer allowed to play in Mesa due to profanity during the soundcheck , which hurt a neighboring Mormon congregation. With the current occupation, however, there were no more such riots.
For some time the Phunk Junkeez were signed to Suburban Noize Records .
