PhyreEngine is a free platform-independent game engine for computer games from Sony Computer Entertainment . It supports OpenGL and Direct3D .

With its multithreading support, it is specially designed for cell processors , but can also be ported to other multi-core architectures. It was presented on February 21, 2008 at the Game Developers Conference 2008 in San Francisco .

With the PhyreEngine it is possible to develop games on the PC and to use them on the PlayStation 3 after a simple compilation .

Several current games have been made using the PhyreEngine, including Colin McRae: Dirt and Race Driver: GRID .
