Piazzi is an impact crater on the westernmost edge of the front of the moon , southeast of the Mare Orientale and southeast of the Lagrange crater , north of Inghirami .

The crater is heavily shaped and covered by the ejecta of the Mare Orientale, so that the rim of the crater is difficult to see.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi .
