The Pickering nunatak is a distinctive nunatak in the East Antarctic Mac-Robertson Land . It rises 30 km south-southwest of the Manning Nunatakker on the eastern flank of the mouth of the Lambert Glacier in the Amery Ice Shelf .
It was discovered during an overflight on November 2, 1957 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named him after Richard Ronald Pickering (1929-1997) of the Royal Australian Air Force , who was involved in coordinating Antarctic flights from Mawson Station in 1957 .
