Type Hardling

Pico Cão Grande ( Portuguese for "tip / peak of the big dog") is a needle-shaped volcano that shapes the landscape - hardy in São Tomé and Príncipe , in the Caué district of São Tomé in the Parque Natural Obô de São Tomé . Its summit is 663  m high and it rises about 370 m from the surrounding terrain. The hardy was created by hardening magma in the chimney of an active volcano. The closest village is Vila Clotilde , 3 km east. The capital of the São João dos Angolares district is 9 km to the east.

Ascents

The first ascent attempts were made in 1975 by a Portuguese climbing team and the first successful ascent was made by a Japanese team. In 2016 Gareth Leah (England) and Sergio Almada (Mexico) laid a climbing route with safety bolts to the summit (Nubivagant ( ascent into the clouds )). The route is 455 m long (F8b, 5.13d). Difficulties on the route include snakes and greasy moss.
